The creator of Marakand, Laurice Murr, is the fourth generation of her family’s long tradition in furniture creation since 1920. She has been immersed in furniture design since an early age and grew up to become an accomplished interior decorator, with more than 15 years of experience in interiors and furniture design, with a particular interest for antique and vintage furniture.

Laurice studied interior decoration and graduated with honors. Her professional experience covers both residential and commercial work, in addition to exhibitions both in Lebanon and abroad.

Her passion for what is unique led her to create the Marakand atelier and collection, a fusion between the beautiful old traditional art of Suzani with old and contemporary furniture pieces. This fusion brings out a range of the finest pieces of home furniture and decoration.

From Beirut, where she is based, Laurice prides herself on working very closely on her products, designing and personnaly supervising every details and every step in the production of her designs to achieve the highest standards of fine craftsmanship.

Marakand, known now as Samarkand has been one of the greatest cities of Central Asia.This third city of Uzbekistan was known by an abbreviated name of Marakanda when Alexander the Great took it in 332BC. Along with Bukhara, Samarkand is one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world, prospering from its location on the silk road between China and the West. The name is synonym with rich history and splendid treasures of unique products and crafts.
